Alias Pellegrino Tibaldi
Adriano Kestenholz
Following the footsteps and artworks of Pellegrino de Pellegrini, alias Pellegrino Tibaldi (1527−1596), an innovative Italian Mannerist painter, sculptor and architect. In Rome, under the influence of Michelangelo, Tibaldi decorated Pope Paul III’s apartment at the Castel Sant’Angelo. In Pavia and Milan, he served as an architect for Cardinal Charles Borromeo. He then answered the summons of Philip II of Spain to supervise the decorating of the Escorial Library near Madrid. Finally, we discover his frescoes in Ancona, Bologna and the Lake District near Milan, his homeland.
