Art in the Twenty-First Century: Johannesburg

Ian Forster

Since the abolition of apartheid in 1994, Johannesburg has been home to a blossoming art scene and has become the hub of creativity in sub-Saharan Africa. This documentary highlights four artists of different generations and ethnic communities: all of them – a photographer, a painter, a sculptor, and a performer – want to end cleavages and tell their stories. Their community-based, inclusive approach casts a new look at the history of the country of their birth and helps them imagine the future.
