Christopher Hinton
Christopher Hinton studied animation at Sheridan College of Applied Arts before taking a brief apprenticeship at Larkins Studio, Covent Garden, London. He directed commercials at Kenn Perkins Animation Studio, Winnipeg, in 1971, and then worked solely as a free lance animator, director and producer, to the present day. He was a tenured professor at Concordia University, Fine Arts, Cinema from 1989 to 2005. He has freelanced for the National Film Board of Canada, the CBC, Sesame Street, Acme Filmworks, Los Angeles, and Cinar among other commercial studios.
Hinton has won awards at many international film festivals : Annecy, Stuttgart, Ottawa, Hiroshima, Zagreb, Leipzig, I Castelli. He was nominated for an Academy Award, in 1999 (Blackfly) and 2004 (Nibbles).
His recent practice explores the integration of narrative and non-figurative imagery in contemporary media, moving image and photography. Hinton is presently collaborating with musicians and composers of contemporary music for motion pictures and live performance. He currently resides in Victoria, British Columbia.
