The work of the Mexican-Canadian Nicolás Pereda explores the theatrical dimension hidden in everyday life and its modes of representation on stage and behind the scenes. Over more than a decade of collaboration with the collective of actors, Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol, founded by Luisa Pardo and Lázaro Gabino Rodríguez, these films have developed as mises en abyme that insert one work within another. In Lázaro de Noche (2024), the casting process becomes a pretext for investigating the boundary between acting and personality: what if, in certain films, actors are not interpreting others, but instead embodying their own being within the script? The film’s conclusion recreates the myth of Aladdin in the mountains of Tepoztlán.
