Le tableau rescapé – Emanuel de Witte à l’atelier de restauration

The painstaking, impassioned work of Agata Sochon, who spent 1,450 hours restoring Emanuel de Witte’s painting Interior with a Woman Playing a Virginal, in the collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts since 1894. This seventeenth-century Dutch masterpiece was seriously damaged during an attempted theft in 1972 and only partially restored in 1974.
