Leonard Bernstein — A Genius Divided
Thomas Von Steinaecker
American composer, conductor and pianist, Leonard Bernstein (1918 – 1990) led the New York Philharmonic Orchestra for eleven years (1958 – 1969). This film pays homage to his remarkable career, painting an intimate and surprising portrait of an artist we thought we knew so well. Through interviews with his three children and close friends, we gradually uncover the many layers of Bernstein, learning about the challenges and difficulties he faced. He spent his life divided between his talent as a conductor and his desire to compose.
