Les sièges de Monsieur Paulin
Danielle Schirman
For close to 60 years, French designer Pierre Paulin (1927−2009) embodied modernity. A pioneer, he developed new styles that heralded changing customs. His work focused primarily on chairs, which he saw as a metaphor for the human being. By using elastic upholstery fabric, he came up with a way of completely covering the frame of the chair to offer both comfort and support.
