Viola Rusche, Hauke Harder
German composer Ernstalbrecht Stiebler was among the first in Europe to explore the possibilities of minimalism and repetition in his compositions. Today the director of contemporary music at the Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt, he is also the creator of a rich body of work that appeals to younger audiences. Filmmakers Viola Rusche and Hauke Harder follow the composer as he meanders down a river and reflects on the role of silence in contemporary music. His work for cello, Sequenz II, is interspersed with his thoughts about music, slowness, space, repetition, resonance and emotion.
