Mali blues
Lutz Gregor
Music lies at the very core of Mali’s cultural identity. The country, after all, is known as the cradle of blues and jazz. In Mali Blues, director Lutz Gregor embarks on a musical journey to the heart of Africa, dazzling us with its kaleidoscopic colours and melodies. He meets up with socially committed musicians who are fighting for peace and religious freedom in the country, which has been threatened by jihadistes since 2012. These musicians include Bassekou Kouyaté, the virtuoso of the n’goni; rapper Master Soumy; Ahmed Ag Kaedi, the bandleader of Touareg; and singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara.
