The Nature of Modernism: E. Stewart Williams, Architect
Jake Gorst
When Frank Sinatra walked in to the offices of architect E. Stewart Williams (1909−2005) in Palm Springs in May 1947, he wanted a Georgian-style house in the desert. Williams tactfully convinced him of the benefits of modernism. Sinatra went for it. The house was the first in a string of residential, civic, academic and institutional icons designed in the mid-twentieth century that define the look and feel of the Coachella Valley even today.
