The Triumphs and Laments of William Kentridge
Adam Low
This documentary presents a window into the world of South African artist William Kentridge, as he prepares a monumental 550-meter frieze along the Tiber River in Rome and his studio in Johannesburg, his hometown and inspiration for the hand-drawn magic animation films he calls “drawings for projection”. Raised under apartheid and witness to a political transition to a multicultural democracy, Kentridge is a politically inspired artist whose creative process behind cartoons, prints, and animated films reflects the turbulent history of his native country. A privileged look at the colossal work of a unique artist.
