Villa Flora, its Collectors, its Artists
Nathalie David
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Villa Flora and its gardens in Winterthur, Switzerland were transformed by architect Robert Rittmeyer to house the Nabis and Fauvist collection of Hedy and Arthur Hahnloser: Bonnard, Vallotton, Vuillard, Matisse, Rouault, Maillol, but also Van Gogh, Cézanne and Redon. Owing to a lack of funds, the Villa Flora closed in 2014. In a voice-over, their son Hans Robert Hahnloser relates the story of this couple, their passion for an art that was little-known at the time, and their contributions to the cultural landscape of Winterthur.
