Yearning for the Presence | Ringen um die Gegenwart

In 2008, the Staatsoper Stuttgart commissioned Mark Andre to write an opera directed by Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito. The subject derived from a tale that had fascinated the composer since childhood: the disappearance of Jesus from Nazareth. The main character of this opera, which was seven years in the making, was German theologian Johannes Reuchlin (1455−1522), a specialist in the Kabbalah of the 15^th century. The film follows the creation of Wunderzaichen, under the musical direction of Sylvain Cambreling, which was acclaimed by critics and public alike.
