E.1027 – Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea tells the story of Eileen Gray, an often-overlooked icon of modern architecture, and her iconic house in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on the French Riviera. Built between 1926 and 1929, the E.1027 villa was a collaboration between Gray and architect Jean Badovici, her lover at the time. Despite being a key figure in architecture, Gray’s work remained largely in the shadows, overshadowed by the male-dominated field. This groundbreaking and visionary house would later be altered by Le Corbusier, an architect, urban planner, and friend of Badovici. Jealous of Gray’s artistic vision, Le Corbusier added his own paintings to the villa’s white walls, ignoring Gray’s requests to remove them. This hybrid documentary blends archival footage with reenacted scenes to offer an immersive experience into the world of Eileen Gray and her creations. It examines how Le Corbusier distorted her vision and reflects on the struggle of a pioneering woman fighting for recognition in a male-dominated world.

Starring Natalie Radmall-Quirke as Eileen Gray.
