This documentary shines a light on the Japanese artists of the Edo era (1603−1868), true pioneers of ​“modern art.” During this period, Japan was prospering in peaceful isolation from Western powers, and artists were boldly experimenting with abstraction, minimalism, surrealism and the illusion of 3D.
