Les Petits Secrets des grands tableaux – Une baignade à Asnières (1884) de Georges Seurat

At the end of the 19th century, Asnières took on the air of a seaside resort. The banks of the Seine are alive with the cheers of the regatta crowds, and the boating club is always busy.

By the time he painted his canvas, Georges Seurat had understood that the present was now all about a fascinating, ruthless religion: progress. He refused to allow art to remain on the sidelines of this upheaval, and invented pointillism.
