MOON RIVER
A lyrical meditation on moon cycles and the female body
A female persona enters a new time, released from fertility. She negotiates her place between ironworks and a moss-edged river as she enacts a tender rite. She carries the blood, one last time, as her moon cycles recede into body memory. She invites new lunar relationship in. MOON RIVER is visual poem about the female body and change.

Misha Horacek

Misha Horacek is a Canadian-Czech performance and video artist. Her practice is inspired by the experience of the female body and the mythologies that emerge from it through its relationship to place and time, including personas, creatures, and stories.

Born in Nova Scotia, she studied English Literature and Theatre Studies at the University of King’s College in Halifax, then trained in classical acting at the National Theatre School of Canada and at DAMU in Prague. From 1994 to 2004, she was active in devised theatre across Halifax, Toronto, Prague, and New York, notably with Milkman Theatre Group.
In the early 2000s, she began incorporating digital video into her practice and deepened her work in durational and site-specific performance, exploring the body’s connection to environment, temporality, and natural cycles. She completed an MA in Visual Performance at Dartington College of Arts in England and continued her research in London until 2012.

In 2012 and 2013, she trained in the Life/Art Process at the Tamalpa Institute in California with choreographer Anna Halprin, developing a somatic and embodied approach. Her current work brings together non-stylized movement, ritual action, installation, sound, and film. She leads workshops such as Body Mythology and Body & Land, and mentors artists in creative process and leadership.

Her work is archived at the Live Art Development Agency in London and at the Black Kit in Cologne. Misha is currently based in Halifax and continues to work between Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
