For this 42nd edition, Le FIFA offers a Carte blanche dedicated to the production of Charles Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, directed by Thomas Jolly, at the Opéra national de Paris.
In the first instance, Roméo, Juliette, Thomas et les autres, a captivating documentary that follows director Thomas Jolly on the ambitious adventure of staging Charles Gounod’s opera at the Opéra Bastille. Thomas Jolly, with his humor and sensitivity, opens the doors to the rehearsals, artistic decisions and moments of inspiration that make up the beating heart of this production.
In a second instance, you can watch the recording of the production. Gounod’s opera, famous for its delicate interpretation of the tragic love between the two young Véronais, is sublimated by Jolly’s inventive staging. With its poignant love duets, rousing waltz and music that oscillates between light and darkness, this production captures the vibrant essence of youth and eternal love.
