Sharing Through the Generations
Alain Boisvert
In 2014, Akwesasne band council chiefs and Quebec government officials launched a unique project. Natasha Smoke Santiago, a Mohawk artist living in Akwesasne, and John Ryan, an artist from Quebec’s Vallée-du-Haut-Saint-Laurent, would work to produce paintings depicting each other’s traditions. This is the story of the artists’ journey, about friendships, about love for art and culture, and how knowledge can be shared across generations.
