Une vie contre l’oubli
Kita Bauchet
André Dartevelle made more than 100 films in close to 40 years. With his engaged, insightful eye, he documented the lives of Belgium’s workers and the country’s entire history, as well as the history of the world, shedding light on the major social and political struggles of its time. Near the end of his life, when he was incapacitated by illness, he spoke with filmmaker Kita Bauchet about his work. Through his own accounts, those of his associates and his fellow filmmakers, including Luc Dardenne, Hugues Le Paige and Wilbur Leguebe, he takes a compelling look back at key moments in contemporary history. Since Dartevelle died during the making of the film, Bauchet’s film is the final testament to the mind of this little-known filmmaker and journalist.
