Who is Oda Jaune?
Kamilla Pfeffer
Oda Jaune paints bodies that are mutilated and disfigured, naked and sexless, faceless. Disturbing paintings, painful paintings. And she paints faces radiating happiness, people in paradise, people who can fly. Tender, touching paintings. Originally from Bulgaria, Oda Jaune studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in Germany, where she studied under — and later married — painter Jörg Immendorff. After the latter’s death in 2007, she moved to Paris. Getting in touch with her there was a challenge for director Kamilla Pfeffer. Almost two years passed before she agreed to be in this film. The plan was simple: to follow the artist in her studio as she prepares for an upcoming exhibition.
