Marie Gaillet, a Belgian artist, has been a painter for 70 years. After her studies in fashion design in Brussels, she started oil painting thanks to the insistence of Jacques Maes, professor at the academy of St Josse in Brussels. For 20 years she painted with Pierre Dulieu. It was at Regain, near the small town of Apt, that she discovered the landscapes of Provence. On the spot, she drew them in Indian ink and painted them in watercolour. In her studio, she transposes them into oil paintings. For 13 years now, she has been severely handicapped by age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Despite this, she continues to paint and to give painting lessons.
