The Italian director award-winning Mimmo Verdesca tells the story of the legendary Italian movie star Alida Valli, muse of Visconti, Hitchcock, Welles, Bertolucci, Argento, etc.), through the unpublished words of her letters and diaries that come back to life through the actress Giovanna Mezzogiornos voice, enriching it with other exclusive materials: photographs, home movies in 8 mm, new interviews with her sons, relatives, friends and collaborators, including Dario Argento, Roberto Benigni, Bernardo Bertolucci, Charlotte Rampling, Vanessa Redgrave among the others, and much more archive material from all over the world. The documentary Alida, in official selection at Cannes Classics 2020, shows a complete and unseen portrait of the life of a beautiful young girl from Pula (Istria) who quickly became one of the most famous and beloved actresses of Italian and international cinema.

Mimmo Verdesca, after a long experience as assistant director in cinema and theater, where he worked, among others, with Ferzan Ozpetek, Maurizio Ponzi, Fabio Grossi and Leo Gullotta, makes some award-winning documentaries on cinema, winning two Nastri d’Argento and participating in numerous international festivals such as Rome Film Fest, Lumière Festival in Lyon and Giffoni Film Festival. His latest documentary film Alida, dedicated to the life of the legendary actress Alida Valli, was selected at the Cannes Film Festival 2020, in the Cannes Classics section, and presented with great success at the Rome Film Fest 2020.
