Portrait of the Canadian artist duo Cozic, composed of Monique Brassard (1944) and Yvon Cozic (1942). United in life and creation, the couple works with industrial materials in vibrant colors to create ecological and playful artworks. From the carefree hippie years of the 1960s to major public art commissions, their work reflects the evolution of our relationship with nature and the industrial world. Today, from their remarkable estate in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Rochelle in the Eastern Townships, the duo is preparing for their major retrospective at the Musée national des beaux-arts de Québec. A deep dive into the fantastical world of these unconventional artists.
Mot de réalisation :
“In 2003, as a young artist and curator, I invited Cozic to an event on kitsch at the Joyce Yahouda Gallery. An immediate friendship was born. Monic, radiant, articulate, and above all, confident; Yvon, so warm and welcoming. I wanted to bring to light the story of this artistic union, born from the love between a woman and a man, fused into the singular identity of Cozic. A contemporary fairy tale where the princess and the prince revel in creating together (CL).
In a secluded land, deep in an enchanting forest, a couple has built a whimsical universe where art merges with intimacy. Their life is the stage for this shared passion. This film is an attempt to capture the alchemy of their exhilarating collaboration, an immersion into their career — both magical and mysterious.
Let us celebrate the artistic diamond anniversary of Monic Brassard and Yvon Cozic and accompany them on their journey toward the ultimate consecration of this retrospective (ED).”
- Céline B. La Terreur
In the presence of the film crew on March 15th in Quebec City and on March 22nd in Montreal.
