Robert Roussil, a major figure in Quebec sculpture, left a lasting mark on the art world with his bold works and commitment to freedom of expression. However, since his death in 2013, his legacy seems to be fading into oblivion. Robert Roussil, le cul par terre aims to revive the memory of this visionary artist by exploring his work and philosophy.
Built around a rich compilation of archival footage, this documentary draws on numerous interviews Roussil gave throughout his career. It traces his journey, from his exile in France at the start of his career to his life in his mill in Tourrette-sur-Loup, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, where he created most of his works. The film opens the doors to his home and studio, while highlighting his sculptures still visible in Montreal, which continue to reflect his influence.
In the presence of director Maxime-Claude L’Écuyer, executive producers Pierre Dufour and Diane Chayer and Danielle Roussil, the wife of Robert Roussil, on March 22nd in Montreal.
