Dominique Lemieux, the creator of extraordinary costume-characters, shaped the visual identity of Cirque du Soleil. Yet, she remains little known to the general public.
She passed away on November 24, 2024, at the age of 67. On this occasion, and at the initiative of her designer friend Anne-Marie Tougas, LE FIFA, in collaboration with the composer René Dupéré, the singer Francesca Gagnon, and Cirque du Soleil, will present a very special screening featuring a performance and a selection of scenes drawn from the imagination of this remarkable artist. It will be followed by the film La Griffe magique, which tells her story.
Filmed over two years in Montreal, Las Vegas, Brussels, Milan, Chartres (France), Fukuoka (Japan), and Benares (India), La Griffe magique offers a unique window into the imagination of this flamboyant artist. Carlos Ferrand takes us into the heart of the performing arts world to explore Dominique Lemieux’s creative process, from the initial sketch to the fully realized character shining under the stage lights. The film reveals the many sources of her inspiration, the behind-the-scenes of her long collaboration with Franco Dragone, and the preparation of a Cirque du Soleil show in partnership with director Daniele Finzi Pasca. La Griffe magique is a vibrant audiovisual creation that reflects the extraordinary talent of an exceptional artist.
