Ishkawen. Deux cornes soufflant à polir l’horizon des événements

Karim Rafi

Morocco | 2022 | 7 min
This film is part of Fatima Zahra-Lakrissas Carte Blanche

Two horns blowing to polish the horizon of events. Ishkawen is an immersive and inspiring work by filmmaker Karim Raif who decided to shoot a Moroccan musician in a single sequence. In this artistic quest, Raif seeks to unravel the mysteries of this traditional instrument made of two joined horns, which has a rare sound. Through a captivating tension between sound and silent image, the musician’s performance becomes a choreography. Admire the magnificent landscape that is the heart of the Moroccan Oriental.

Karim Rafi

Karim Rafi researcher artist. His works question the human being, his environment, the relationship he has with himself as well as with its extensions constituted by his institutions, his ideas, his representations and his entourage. His conception of art as flow translates into the form of essays, conceptual and formal narrative devices … articulated in sound, visual, performative, cinematographic, poetic, horticultural and anarchitectural creation… he explores different fields of research under the form of investigations, by making connections between art and sociology, history, cosmology, philosophy, acoustics, biology and urbanism…
