For this 41st edition, Le FIFA is pleased to welcome the Carte Blanche of Fatima Zahra-Lakrissa, copresented with the Centre culturel Marocain à Montréal
“This program is entirely dedicated to Morocco and features six non-fiction works that explore this territory in an empirical and factual manner. With the exception of two of them, which evoke the erosion of this link, all these works have a documentary intention. The subjects addressed, the aesthetic choices adopted and the positions taken by the artists at the heart of their research and artistic practice also refer to this intention. This includes investigations, interviews, but also documentary research (written observations, audio or video recordings, drawing, photography). If the field is apprehended as a method of data collection, or of production of narratives and experiences, it is by means of devices often distant from the historical model of direct cinema that this one is questioned: by constructing a relationship to reality and to the present fully founded on artistic representation, which, however, does not renounce either the factual representation of the experience, nor the veracity and the exactitude of the restituted history(ies). It is also through fieldwork that these six artists immerse themselves in a relational space and establish human relationships that ensure their commitment and active participation, sometimes activist and collective, in the field of social practices explored. The artists combine different forms of intervention. They can include a situation, an encounter, an event, a performance, always with the objective of encouraging the expression of subjectivities through the collection and restitution of memories, the expression of a language, conveyed by the word, the voice, the body, in order to engage various participants in the personal narrative of their experiences, their stories and their knowledge.”
