Raphaëlle de Groot en performance à Venise
Frédéric Lavoie
In 2013, the Galerie de l’UQAM presented a performance by Raphaëlle de Groot at the Venice Biennale. This video depicts the three phases of the performance: the metamorphosis of the figure in the Giardini; the walk to the edge of the Grand Canal; and the procession in the gondola when, decked out in various materials and objects evoking the notions of colour, form and manipulation belonging to the world of the visual arts, the artist navigated the Venice canals, like a sinister effigy, an unbalanced figurehead. Her silhouette, before disappearing from view, recalls the Baroque splendour of Venetian processions over the ages.
