Smoke
Rhayne Vermette & Bret Parenteau
Presented only in theatres
This short film is the outcome of a close collaboration between filmmaker Rhayne Vermette and sound artist Bret Parenteau. The video was made by filming the ruins of a photocopied architectural model. The audio was designed using deconstructed tape recordings, collaged together to make sound loops, mostly of piano. The titles of the pieces are Solitary & Solace and Partners Gazed in Admiration. Smoke offers an experience of a space of metamorphoses that is animated and then dissolves, paradoxically, in light. A sequence of highly contrasting, increasingly abstract images enters into dialogue with a soundtrack rich in sonic materials and textures. The experience is optical, aural and physical.
This film is part of the FIFA EXPERIMENTAL section program PROJECTIONS.
