AN INSPIRING PROGRAMME
BREAD WILL WALK (2024) — Short film by Montreal director Alex Boya

Synopsis: A devoted sister flees with her brother, who has been transformed into a strange bread creature. A hungry crowd pursues them. The streets become tangled, reason crumbles. Can love overcome hunger?
Premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes on 22 May 2025, the film is currently competing in the New Alchemists category at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma.
Known for his surreal universe and hand-drawn narrative style, Alex Boya coined the term ‘genomic animation,’ a technique that distorts biological forms to explore notions of identity and transformation. His film Turbine laid the foundation for his Kafkaesque vision. With Bread Will Walk, he continues his exploration of dystopian absurdity.
ARCHITECTON (2024) — Feature film by renowned filmmaker Viktor Kossakovsky

After the sensory immersion of Aquarela (2019), which focused on water and the devastating effects of climate change, and Gunda (2020), which took a contemplative look at the animal world, the director now offers a meditation on stone.
Between Ukrainian ruins and a ballet of stones, Viktor Kossakovsky’s Architecton is a visual meditation on architecture, memory and destruction, questioning how we inhabit the past, present and future world. A film that captivates with its striking slow-motion images and impressive landscapes.
The film will be screened this autumn at Hot Docs in Toronto after being part of the Official Selection at the 2024 Berlinale.
‘I appeal to scientists and engineers: we must mobilise eight billion brains to find a substitute for concrete. We must find something that allows us to build things that last, while respecting nature’- Viktor Kossakovsky.
