Looking for Light | New collection on ARTS.FILM

Image from the film Vilanova Artigas: the Architect and the Light

The world is not always rosy. It is not always joyful. And if we look at Gaza, Yemen, or Ukraine, we too often see darkness. To avoid sinking into despair, art and those who create it have always kindled the flame, fed hope, and sought the light.

In a very concrete way, first, with architects whose work was built on this quest. Vilanova Artigas: the Architect and the Light by Laura Artigas and Pedro Gorski is a remarkable example of this. Then, in Anna-Eva Bergman, L’Alchimie de la lumière, Matisse, le tailleur de lumière, or Robert Irwin: A Desert Of Pure Feeling, we rediscover major figures whose works were constructed from what could be considered the most fundamental of all materials. And finally, there is another form of light, one that illuminates hearts and is experienced more than seen: this is the focus of The Silence of The Banana Trees by Eneos Carka, a remarkable short film about a damaged father-daughter relationship. To heal it, like gently stroking the fevered brow of a child, there is cinema. For a moment, the light is reignited.
