Focus Ukraine: Through the Eyes of Roman Blazhan | New collection on ARTS.FILM

As the invasion of Ukraine by Russia drags on, bringing with it daily horrors and misfortunes, we wanted to give a voice to a filmmaker of unique talent: Roman Blazhan.

Through this focus on his work, our aim was to juxtapose images of the “before” with those of today, to bring together sunny beaches (Beaches of Kyiv) and unthreatened balconies (Enter Through The Balcony) with the uncertainty of the present times (Generation Ukraine). Comprising four short films made before February 24, 2022, and a feature film produced this year, this curation provides a perspective, that of a native of Donetsk, on the architecture and youth of his country. By showcasing the resilience of the latter and the artists who comprise it, Roman Blazhan charts a path of hope that is all the more vital. Slava Ukraini!
