NICOLE GINGRAS CLOSESCHAPTER AT THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF FILMS ON ART

Montreal, August 20, 2025 – The International Festival of Films on Art (Le FIFA) announces the departure of Nicole Gingras, programmer of the FIFA Experimental section, after twenty-three years of remarkable collaborations.

A flagship program unique in Canada, the FIFA Experimental section, which she shaped in the early 2000s, has established itself over the years as a space for discovery, reflection, and dialogue for creators from around the world. From the moment she joined the festival, Nicole Gingras developed a unique, bold, and deeply committed vision, offering an exceptional showcase for works and artists exploring new forms of cinematic expression.

This great collaboration with FIFA since the 2003 edition has been an opportunity to showcase various forms of experimental cinema and video — an exploratory cinema to which I am deeply attached. My gratitude goes to the artists, filmmakers, and videographers, and their distributors, to FIFA, its various management teams, its staff, and its board of directors, as well as to the public for the trust and friendship they have shown over the years. I look forward to pursuing my passion in a different way through research, writing, and curating.” — Nicole Gingras.

It is with emotion and immense gratitude that the entire FIFA team, past and present, salutes the remarkable work of Nicole Gingras, her intellectual rigor, her insatiable curiosity, her invaluable contribution to the promotion of experimental cinema, and her inspiring influence on the careers of many.

We can only bow our heads to someone who has dedicated her life to filmmakers. For twenty-three years, Nicole Gingras was the visionary curator of the FIFA Experimental section, offering audiences both seminal and contemporary works in this essential field. From Michael Snow, Manon Labrecque, Thirza Cuthand, and Vivian Ostrovsky to emerging artists, she always welcomed unique voices that question our relationship to cinema and creation. I myself have learned a great deal from her work, not only by witnessing her willingness to receive works, but above all by her ability to listen: to listen to films, artists, and their inter-resonances. ” — Philippe U. Del Drago, Executive and Artistic Director of FIFA.

This chapter now closed, she is free to pursue the many other projects she is already working on and continue to introduce us to her world in other forms.
