Au travers
This poetic portrait of Acadian artist Monique Léger explores authentic movement” (a field of dance therapy) as a powerful force for transcending death. Through this somatic and expressive body practice, the film unveils an intimate journey of transmission and transcendence, blending art and spirituality.

Director’s statement:
Through offers a uniquely lyrical narrative that brings to life the exceptional work of Monique Léger, an Acadian dancer, while highlighting the profound influence of her mentor, Judith Koltai, who was a teacher, a master in Victoria, Vancouver. The film delves into their creative collaboration, portraying how Koltai’s mentorship has shaped Léger’s artistry and contributed to the transmission of invaluable knowledge and tradition within the dance community, particularly through the practice of Authentic Movement.

In Through, the dance sequences are interspersed with expressive drawings and evocative writing, all converging to create a rich tapestry of movement and expression. This blending of mediums transforms the film into a visual poem, celebrating the beauty and fluidity of dance as an art form. The mentorship of Koltai and the practice of Authentic Movement add depth to the narrative, emphasizing the importance of passing on wisdom, fostering artistic growth, and celebrating the natural beauty of the human body in motion.

My previous films have been honored with selections and awards at numerous international festivals, recognized for their innovative and emotive storytelling. I believe Through continues this tradition, offering a poignant and immersive experience that will deeply resonate with your festival’s audience.
