Do all sorrows become bearable when turned into a story or when narrated? French director Karine Birgé offers a touching narrative on her grandmother’s decision to leave France to receive medical assistance in dying in Belgium at the age of 102. Using the sound traces she kept, she summons a small theater of dolls and objects, brings together her loved ones, her friends, Dr. Frankenstein, and Chantal Goya, and reweaves a world around her grandmother who left in a strange tranquility. An ingenious work of great poetry, embodied by animation editing, combining modesty and emotion.

Karine Birgé
Karine Birgé was born in the mists of Lorraine, in a land that still bears the scars of war. As a child, she played along the railway and in the bunkers, collecting helmets and still buried shells, or walking Lola her goat along the road.
She grows up, just a little, and goes off to university. She dreams of being a hard rocker. One night she takes a train to Paris. She then frequents bars and restaurants, but behind the counter, not in front, or only sometimes. Another night she migrates to Belgium to study for a few years at the Conservatoire royal de Liège. After all that, she arrives in Brussels, sells sushis, plays in several shows and directs documentaries. Finally she starts a gang with Marie Delhaye: the Karyatides company. And together they make object theatre.
