This feature-length documentary film follows artist Marina Abramovic as she prepares for what may be the most important moment of her life: a major retrospective of her work at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. For any living artist, to be given a retrospective at one of the world’s most renowned museums is the biggest milestone of all. For Marina, it is even more — it is the chance to finally banish the question that has haunted her for four decades: “But why is this art?”

Matthew Akers
Matthew Akers is an American film director, producer, cinematographer, and photographer. He is best known for the critically acclaimed documentary Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present which he won a Peabody and Emmy Award. He recently directed two primetime ABC television specials for David Blaine, Real or Magic and Beyond Magic, which featured Blaine performing magic for various celebrities and public figures.

Jeff Dupre
Dupre is a director and a producer. His directorial debut, Out of the Past, won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival. He co-directed and produced the documentary on the legendary performance artist Marina Abramovic. Jeff and Maro Chermayeff are partners in Show of Force, a film and television production company. Show of Force produced Half the Sky, a 4 hour documentary series for PBS based on the eponymous book by the Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl Wu Dunn. To commemorate their 50th Anniversary, Amnesty International commissioned Jeff to direct and produce AI50, which manages to condense the organization’s illustrious history into a 15 minute short film.
