At the age of 78 and during the last six years of his life, Henri Matisse devoted much time and energy to a new technique for him: vitrail. This still little-known part of his work is part of his research into color, light, and transparency that he pursued throughout his life from his native North of France, culminating in his trip to Oceania. He has undertaken this final work as a challenge to age and illness.
