Regards de femmes : Carte blanche à l’Institut du monde arabe
For the second year running, Le FIFA is giving carte blanche to the Arab World Institute in Paris.
In this program of 8 short films, the Arab World Institute honors talented female directors from several Arab countries (Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine), and Iran. Some of these films were presented at the IMA in conjunction with the Divas, d’Oum Kalthoum à Dalida exhibition (May 19 — September 26, 2021). Others are part of the Arabo-futurs, Sciences fiction, Utopias and New Arab Imaginaries exhibition, which opens at the IMA in April. Including works by artists from the Arab Futurist artistic movement, which has been developing since the 2000s in contemporary art from the Arab world and its diasporas, the works presented draw inspiration from science and technology, as well as utopia, dystopia, fantasy and anticipation, to imagine a future that breaks with, questions or reinvents the region’s societies and identities. In addition to this program, the IMA is offering a selection of Iranian short films to echo the Femme, Vie, Liberté evening in support of the Iranian people, organized with the association Femme Azadi in April 2023.
