Ecstatic Unity

GERARD X REYES is a choreographer, dancer, emerging director, certified Sexological Bodyworker, intimacy coordinator and pioneer of the Montreal Kiki Ballroom scene. They have lived and worked in Montreal, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles and Berlin. As a dancer, Reyes spent seven years as a member of the Marie Chouinard Company. As a multidisciplinary artist, they have created immersive works for the stage (The Principle of Pleasure, Public/​Private Parts ou L’Origine du monde), for cinema (Ecstatic Unity, The Key to Dreams), and a podcast series (Public/​Private Parts). In addition, director Sophie Dupuis hired them as choreographer for her film SOLO – which won the Best Canadian Feature Film award at TIFF in 2023. Between 2014 and 2019, Gerard built the foundation of the Kiki Ballroom community in Montreal by teaching voguing classes and organizing Kiki Balls for LGBTQ+ youth (Canada Pride 2017, Montreal Pride 2018). In 2019, Reyes obtained certification in Sexological Bodywork through the Institute of Somatic Sexology in Australia. This allows Gerard to teach somatic sex education and participate in stage and film projects as an Intimacy Coordinator.

Her films portray intimate moments where you can lose yourself to a dreamy cinematic desire. For Poppy sex plays a significant role in the eyes of the mind, illustrating that imagination can become the biggest turn on. Poppy seems to effortlessly intertwine humour alongside sensuality in her films, because how dull would sex be without some playfulness?
