The film is based on research around natural history museum collections and heritage sites to better explore pressing issues related to biodiversity loss and the climate crisis. To do this, it draws parallels between two types of phenomena: the recent establishment of new bird species from the South in British soil, and the historical emergence of menageries in colonial England during the 17th and 18th centuries. The work explores the aesthetics of gardens and collections of bird specimens and illustrations from the Natural History Museum in London. This research is part of a broader series titled “Mirement/Towering”, a nautical term referring to a refraction effect that makes an object appear taller than it actually is.
