This film is part of the program Carte Blanche au Centre Pompidou.

In the 1970s, Djouhra Abouda developed a film project within the laboratories of the University of Vincennes, in collaboration with architect Alain Bonnamy (1947). A hub of student protest in 1968, Vincennes remained a center of intellectual fervor at the time, where the lectures of Gilles Deleuze and Jean-François Lyotard profoundly influenced a generation. Their collaboration resulted in three films, in which they experimented with the interplay of forms, colors, and sounds while embedding their political and activist commitment against racism, exclusion, and destructive capitalism. Algérie Couleurs is an experimental film that explores the cultural and social nuances of post-independence Algeria, offering a unique perspective on the daily life and aspirations of the Algerian people.

Djouhra Abouda

Born in Kabylia in 1949, Djouhra Abouda arrived in France at the age of five, accompanied by her mother and older brother. They settled in the Belleville district of Paris, before moving in 1964 to the cité des Quatre Mille, in La Courneuve. At the age of sixteen, she enrolled at the Jussieu School of Performing Arts, where she discovered Antigone and other plays from the classical repertoire. Breaking with her family, she returned to Vincennes University in the 1970s. In the 1980s, she founded the group Djurdjura, with whom she released several albums before going solo, notably with the album Uni-vers-elles in 2002. It was at Vincennes University that Djouhra Abouda met architect, photographer and filmmaker Alain Bonnamy (1947). Together, they made three films: Algérie Couleurs (1972), Cinécité (19731974), a project on the mixing of cultures, and Ali aux pays des merveilles (1976), a militant film denouncing the living conditions of Algerian workers in France.
