Another Feather in Her Bonnet represents the symbolic union of two artists who have come together to challenge ideas of cultural appropriation. Performed by Toronto-based Cree artist Kent Monkman, with the special participation of world renowned French couturier Jean Paul Gaultier, this video portrays the symbolic “marriage” of Miss Chief Eagle Testickle, Monkman’s shape-shifting, time-travelling, gender-fluid alter ego, and Jean Paul Gaultier, who exchanged vows of mutual respect and compassion. Monkman and Gaultier aim to re-contextualize and re-appropriate the faux headdress, playing on the figure of the sexualized and stereotyped Indigenous woman as perceived by the colonial gaze.
