Présage

Hicham Berrada

France | 2019 | 10 min
This film is part of Aseman Sabets Carte Blanche co-presented with MUTEK.

Part of a series under the same title, the video Présage invites us to carefully observe a chemically activated mineral landscape in an aquarium. By provoking calculated reactions through the encounter of multiple components, the artist generates an intriguing tableau vivant. Forms and colors, modulations and growths unfold, sometimes propelled, other times on the verge of immobility. Following a complex evolutive logic, the inorganic matter expands, becomes mobile and leads us to reconsider how we characterize the living and the non-living. Created in the mode of a direct recording performance, the soundtrack contributes to erase the border between nature and culture, between art and science.
