This short film unites music and architecture by presenting the Madonna della Difesa church, in the heart of Little Italy in Montreal. A symbolic monument of the Italo-Quebec community, this church, which was built in 1918, contains exceptional frescoes by the artist Guido Nincheri. To celebrate the deep faith of early 20th-century Italian immigrants, Montreal vocal and solo ensemble Les Rugissants sings Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari’s gripping Passione, which presents the death of Christ from the perspective of his mother, the Virgin Mary.
