Le FIFA’s cartes blanches!
For over five years, Le FIFA has been constantly seeking to enrich its programming by calling on guest programmers for cartes blanches, which aim to change our perspective by offering artists and curators a space to express themselves and share, encouraging discovery and dialogue.

This year, Le FIFA has given Andreina Aveledo carte blanche for a program of fashion films in partnership with M.A.D Festival, mmode, Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec and McCord Stewart Museum.

With a Master’s degree in Visual Anthropology from the University of Bern (Switzerland), Andreina Aveledo began her film programming studies at the French Institute in Spain. Just after the pandemic, she resumed her studies for a master’s degree in cultural management (France), which led her to coordinate the programming of the 40th edition of FIFA. Formerly in charge of the professional meetings of the Festival du nouveau cinéma de Montréal, Andreina is now in charge of the year-round event programming of FIFA, as well as the ARTS.FILM platform.

With the support of the Consulat général de France à Québec, the Arab World Institute will be showcasing women directors from several Arab countries (Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine) as well as Iran.

Born in Aleppo, Syria, Layane Chawaf moved to Paris in 1981. Passionate about cinema, she joined the team at the Arab World Institute in 1992, after studying French Literature and Civilization, linguistics, and translation. As administrator and coordinator of the Arab Cinema Biennial in Paris (1992−2006), she contributed to all activities of the cinema department: screenings, premieres, festivals, round tables, symposiums, etc. Since 2013, she has been the Cinema Manager and General Delegate of the Arab Cinemas Festival, which held its first edition from June 28 to July 8, 2018.
She also coordinated and contributed to the writing of all cinema publications at the Arab World Institute, including “Egypt, One Hundred Years of Cinema” (Plume Editions, 1995). She has served on several festival juries and collaborated on the film programming of numerous festivals.

The Festival will also feature a program of films by artists selected by Pascale Pronnier and Louise Déry, from Le Fresnoy and Galerie de l’UQAM, on the theme of how we look at forests. Copresented with Biosphère | Espace pour la vie and Concordia Faculty of Fine Arts

Louise Déry (Ph.D. Art History) is Director of the Galerie de l’UQAM, having previously been Curator at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, as well as Director of the Musée régional de Rimouski. She has curated over a hundred exhibitions in Canada and abroad, including works by Giuseppe Penone, Rober Racine, Nancy Spero, Dominique Blain, Françoise Sullivan, Michael Snow and Emmanuelle Léonard, to name but a few. She curated an exhibition by David Altmejd for Canada at the 52nd Venice Biennale, and was awarded the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de France and Compagne de l’Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec.
Pascale Pronnier is in charge of artistic programming at Le Fresnoy, Studio national des arts contemporains.
Since 1997, Pascale Pronnier has invited works by contemporary artists such as Bill Viola, Janet Cardiff, Michael Snow, Claudio Parmiggiani, James Turrell, Jean-Luc Godard, Chris Marker, Johan Van der Keuken, Harun Farocki, François Morellet, Simon Hantai, Anri Sala, Clement Cogitore, Hicham Berrada, Kapawni Kiwanga, Saodat Ismailova, Enrique Ramirez, Mati Diop and others to take part in exhibitions.
Pascale Pronnier is also involved in Le Fresnoy’s program to disseminate its artistic productions (600 shows a year).
For example, Le Fresnoy has recently organized exhibitions in collaboration with the following institutions: Louvre Lens, TBA21, Pinault collection, Centre Pompidou. Since 2022, Pascale Pronnier has been a member of the FRAC Picardie acquisition committee.
Roméo et Juliette : Carte blanche à l’Opéra national de Paris
Le FIFA offers carte blanche to the Opéra national de Paris with the screening of the captivating documentary Roméo, Juliette, Thomas et les autres, which follows director Thomas Jolly on his ambitious mission to stage Charles Gounod’s opera at the Opéra Bastille. The presentation will be complemented by a screening of the production.

Khoa Lê is a Montreal-based filmmaker and producer. His works explore the plural nature of our identities, intimacy and the human experience in all its diversity. In addition to his work in film and television, he is the co-founder of Afterglo, a company dedicated to intimate pleasures.
