Because borders are a sad invention, defended more than ever by narrow-minded and limited spirits, we focus here on those who question or transcend them. In Bab Sebta, filmmaker — and, incidentally, the daughter of a customs officer — Randa Maroufi examines the power dynamics at play in Ceuta, the Spanish enclave on Moroccan soil. In Jaar, Lament of the Images, we enter the work of Alfredo Jaar, a major contemporary Chilean artist whose work often addresses immigration at the U.S. – Mexico border. Finally, this collection also celebrates minds that shatter intellectual and artistic boundaries, from Matt Herskowitz (Matt Herskowitz: Chopin — Études in Jazz), who tears down walls between classical music and jazz, to Gilles Delmas and his film Le Passeur des Lieux, narrated by the great Marina Abramovic!
