Uniquely combining the superlative technique of a classical virtuoso with his prowess in jazz and free improvisation, pianist and composer Matt Herskowitz presents a new, cross-genre interpretation of the Chopin Etudes, infusing contemporary jazz language and grooves into the original pieces.
In the tradition of Leopold Godowsky’s Studies on Chopin’s Études, Herskowitz’s Jazz Etudes make Chopin’s masterworks all the more challenging by layering in new rhythmic and harmonic demands in the jazz idiom. With an artful blend of composed music and improvisation, Herskowitz pushes the boundaries of pianistic virtuosity while breaking down the gap between classical and jazz genres, upping the ante, as it were, for both the performer and the listener.
”[Herskowitz] displays touch, power, artistry and chops along with a firm grasp of the daring needed for a great performance” — Downbeat Magazine’s “Editor’s Picks”

Benoît Guérin’s multi-faceted expertise as video director builds on a dual academic background in music (operatic singing) and public relations. He has more than twelve years of experience as studio cameraman for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, more than eight years as freelance cameraman, and nearly twenty years of acting experience.
Benoît excels particularly in capturing musical events. Among his most recent accomplishments, we find the recording and live broadcast of the 24th Opus Awards Gala (virtual) and the recording of the nine Beethoven symphonies with the Orchestre Métropolitain under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, for the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, to mention but a few.
