ARCHES : Le rêve de Kyrylo Stetsenko

Canada | 2024 | 3 min
As part of the series ARCHES: Ukrainian Presence, Les Rugissants presents The Dream by Kyrylo Stetsenko, which explores the inner turmoil of a man in captivity.

A true musical painting, the work evokes the imaginary journey of the captive back to his family home: vast green fields and lush forests welcome him, and gradually, his familiar dwelling comes into view. In the comforting space of the home, the soul enters to reunite with his mother and sister, weighed down by suffering and separation. In a poignant surge of emotion, a rupture occurs, shattering the peaceful illusion — the prisoner awakens from this tormented dream. Is it a dream or cruel reality? The Dream of Kyrylo Stetsenko transcends music, subtly alluding to the political constraints of Ukraine on the threshold of the 20th century, echoing struggles and hopes that remain relevant today.
