Curator’s Note:
In 2025, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of Gabriela Mistral being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Throughout her life, Gabriela Mistral traveled the world not only through her poetry but also through her dedication to political relations in various countries, as a teacher, humanitarian, and diplomat.
Her words, so musical, her writing, her letters, and her messages — today, we wish to bring them to light and rediscover them on a grand scale, from her homeland to her verses.
This Carte Blanche is a tribute to a Chilean woman who, through her warm poetry, built connections, shared ideas, and defended others. Inspired by this spirit, we developed the project “The Migration of Ideas”, drawing from a letter written by Gabriela Mistral to the government of French Canada, in which she expressed her gratitude for her inclusion in the Academy. More than a simple gesture of courtesy, this letter becomes a symbol of the cultural ties between Chile and the world, as well as of Mistral’s universal influence. In her writing, she transcends borders, leaving a profound testament to her devotion to creation and the power of words.
